Five Benefits of A Respectful Workplace

April 8, 2026

Have you ever stopped to consider how everyday respect (or disrespect) at work shapes job satisfaction, creativity, and teamwork?

An article published in Science Daily reported five benefits of a Respectful workplace:

😊 Enhanced Job Satisfaction

According to a 2014 survey by the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) [2], 72% of respondents rated respectful treatment of all employees at all levels as “very important.”

💡 More Creativity

Research by Amir Erez, a professor of management at the University of Florida, found that participants who were treated rudely by other subjects were 30% less creative than others in the study. Rudely treated participants produced 25% fewer ideas, and the ones they did come up with were less original.

🤝 Improved Customer Satisfaction

One survey found that 25% of employees admitted to taking their frustration out on customers. (Source: The Price of Incivility by Christine Porath and Christine Pearson, published in the Harvard Business Review)

⏱️ Less Disruption

A study conducted by Accountemps found that managers and executives at Fortune 1,000 firms spent 13% percent of their time addressing the consequences of disrespectful behavior.

👥 More Teamwork and Collaboration

Christine Porath reported that employees who experience rudeness are 3X less likely to help others. (Source: “How Rudeness Stops People from Working Together” by Christine Porath, Harvard Business Review)
